Drunken man stuck on West Hill Lift tracks
A drunken man trapped on the tracks of West Hill Lift on Easter Sunday sparked an alert across all emergency services.
The stranded man, who had fallen and got stuck 15 yards from the bottom of the lift, dialled 999 on his mobile phone just after 8pm.
According to police, he was unable to state his exact location because he had been drinking and the police helicopter was scrambled in an effort to trace him.
The alarm was also raised with coastguards, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service and an ambulance attended.
The helicopter beam was used to detect the man and he was eventually brought to safety more than an hour after his 999 call.
Police say he was given a medical check by paramedics before being taken to a friend's house at about 10pm.
The lift was not operating at the time.
