Hospital - baby 'stolen'
A BABY was stolen, the wrong drug was given to a patient and incorrect test results were produced by the trust which runs the Conquest in May, its monthly board report shows.
East Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust, which manages the DGH and the Conquest in Hastings, has promised to learn from the blunders.
A report of its 'serious untoward incidents' last month said the mother of a baby due for adoption had been able to take her child from the maternity department.
The baby was later found safely, although the trust could not give any more details for fear of identifying those involved.
The wrong drug was injected during surgery for cataracts, although the patient's eyesight was not damaged, and incorrect testosterone level readings were returned by the pathology department.
An investigation has been made into the drug mix-up and a risk assessment of maternity security done.
A trust spokesman said the body notified the South East Coast Strategic Health Authority of all serious errors so lessons could be learned.
