A campaign to raise awareness of the importance of clean hands in beating hospital bugs is launched at Rye Memorial Care Centre on Friday.
The campaign has been initiated by Hastings and Rother Primary Care Trust.
It aims to reduce the spread of preventable healthcare associated infections, such as MRSA and Clostridium Difficile, by improving the hand hygiene of healthcare workers.
Staff are prompted to clean their hands using either alcohol handrub or soap and water at the critical time and place – where and when patient care is provided.
A display in the foyer of the hospital will remind staff about the importance of hand hygiene, and patients will be encouraged to give feedback and ask staff if they have cleaned their hands before they start a procedure.
Posters will also be on display around the unit to raise awareness.
Debbie Wood, Clean Your Hands Campaign Coordinator and Infection Control Nurse for the PCT, said: "Hand hygiene is one of the most critical factors in preventing the spread of infections, such as MRSA and Clostridium difficile.
"By working together we can improve hand hygiene practice which will contribute to the reduction of preventable infections, and ensure patient safety."
