A DEVELOPMENT at the old Hellingly hospital site has been given the go-ahead by Wealden district councillors.
Last week the Express reported developer Persimmon PLC's fears about the current economic climate.

The company announced it was postponing the development of new sites such as the one planned at Hellingly Hospital.

But Wealden councillors still met to discuss the application on Friday and approved it.

The development would comprise 400 homes including a mixture of houses and a conversion of old hospital buildings for residential use.

A community park and facilities such as a cricket pavilion would also be built.
