NIGEL Whiteley gave an entertaining talk on the work of St Dunstans, a charity that supports blind ex-servicemen and women in achieving independence despite loss of sight.
The charity teaches people to do, without sight, the things that sighted people take for granted, such as telling the time or making a cup of tea, as well as things that many people would find difficult even with full vision, ranging from cooking a four course meal to taking up archery.

It was a moving and inspirational talk that reminded us not to take our sight for granted.

After the talk members enjoyed a display of over 70 hand-knitted hand puppets made by our members, to be sent to Samaritans Purse, a charity which sends Christmas boxes to children in desperate situations acorss the world.

Special mention to Yvonne Lovett who knitted the majority of the puppets!

The next meeting is on Monday, September 15, 7.30pm at the Ashburnham Village Hall, where the talk will be 'Do You Speak Sussex Dialect?' - new members always welcome!
