THE club was very well attended for the July demonstration by Jean Plaskett who was a first prize winner at The World Association of Flower Arrangers Competitions in Japan. Jean is also vice chairman for the Sussex Area of NAFAS.
Her title, It's a Snip, certainly proved that she is a very experienced arranger.
Jean had constructed a stand which included a tall metal CD rack with a fruit bowl attached to the top into an oasis filled dish was inserted.
Her arrangement inclu
ded ruscus, hosta leaves, euonymous (emerald and gold), variegated privet, pink carnations and pink and white stargazer lilies.
A large, round green pot, which is one of Jean's favourite containers, was used for a horizontal design.
Lucidendron, spotted laurel (aucuba), griselinia was arranged into the dish placed into the opening of the vessel.
The flowers were placed through the foliage, these being gold mini gerbera, blue statice.
To finish, beautiful large green poppy heads giving a completely different texture and focal point.
The chairman advised the members that there are two places available on the Sussex Areas trip to Edinburgh for the national flower arranging competitions in October.
Flower arranging diaries are now being ordered and these will be gold coloured to celebrate 50 years of the National Association of Flower Arrangements Society.
Menus were available for the clubs annual August evening meal at The Brickwall Hotel.
This friendly club meets next at Battle and Langton School on Tuesday September 9 (not our usual first Tuesday) at 7.30pm.
