THE July meeting was a demonstration of people in paintings by the ever-popular watercolourist Sue Williams.
The meeting was well attended by members and guests who were enthralled and inspired by the ease at which Sue achieves such believable figures in her paintings.
As she worked, Sue explained colour mixes and techniques for layering colours to rende
r the basic shape and form of the human figure and supplied many useful tips on proportion and perspective.
Working from photographs Sue painted several amazingly fast and accurate pieces including a close up portrait study, and the demonstration ended with a fun question and answer session before Alan Crawley extended thanks to Sue for a wonderfully entertaining afternoon.
All who attended enjoyed the event and it was nice to see president Dale Inglis and some new faces in the audience.
There is no general meeting in August as we are currently holding our annual summer exhibition at the Memorial Hall
.
The exhibition will be open from 10am-5.30pm weekdays.
Outdoor painting continues to take place at pre-arranged locations every Thursday - August 14 at Rye; August 21 Hawkhurst, August 28 Alexandra Park in Hastings, September 4 Jacobs Farm in Sedlescombe, and September 11 Pevensey Castle.
These informal days are for all members who wish to meet and paint on location and start at about 10am.
The September meeting will be held at 2.30pm in the Shepherd Room, Battle Memorial Hall, on Saturday the 13th and is a critique of members paintings by Lorna Vahey - new members and guests are most welcome.
