THE East Sussex Arts Club was given a demonstration of a portrait in oils by Gillian Eldrige on Saturday, May 10. About 30 members attended and enjoyed it very much. Thank you Gillian. The competition of 'Blooming Lovely' was won by Diane Abbott.
The next meeting will be on Saturday, June 14. There will be a workshop by John Shave on wet landscape in watercolour, starting at 10.30am to 15.30pm. Please bring your own materials.

It will be held in the usual venue of St. Johns Church Hall, B
rittany Road, St. Leonards. The competition theme will be 'Footprints in the Sand'.

The club opened its Spring Exhibition with a grand launch party at the White Rock Theatre Gallery on Friday, May 2, where about 50 people attended, including some local dignitaries - Bob Lacey, Chairman of the the county council, Paul Barlow, local Conservative councillor, Keith Boorman, from the Hastings Museum, and Michael Foster, our MP, who was kind enough to open the exhibition for us.

There are 100 paintings on show and the standard of work is excellent. The exhibition will be on for the whole of May from Monday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm, closing on Saturday, May 31.

The East Sussex Arts Club was formed in the 1890s and is still going strong. We have a varied programme of demonstrations, lectures and workshops and meet on the second Saturday of every month (except August) at St. Johns Church Hall, Brittany Road, St. Leonards, at 2.3opm. Workshops are at 10.30am.

Anyone wishing to join may do so at the meeting or may telephone Mrs. Betty Muffitt, membership secretary, on 01424 434492.
