THE president welcomed everyone to the meeting on May 13, especially the speaker Mr Laurie Bowman and his wife and welcomed our delegate to the National Annual Meeting.
The business session was quite short and Mrs. Bourne reported that the Chuuch Flower Festival in which a number of members had been involved and which the institute had helped sponsor had raised more than £1,500 towards restoration work.
She thank
ed Mrs. Payne and Mrs. Scott for their entries into the competition held at the group meeting and for members support of her cake stall at the Coffee Morning for the Children's Society.
Arrangements were made for the June meeting.
The secretary introduced the resolutions that would be proposed at the National Annual meeting.
The proposal on the inappropriate imprisonmment of the severely mentally ill was supported by all members and the proposal that the practice of bottom trawling should be banned was supported by a majority.
Members agreed that our delegate should be able to decide whether to support any last minute amendment.
The resolutions were then followed by the talk 'A Bad Spell of Whether'. Mr. Bowman's illustrated talk on weather was both informative and very entertaining. Mrs Gill Griffin thanked him for a most enjoyable evening.
