Landgate WI
MEMBERS of Landgate WI met for their March meeting at the Rye Social Club.
President Jean Watson welcomed old and new members with apologies from one or two unable to attend.
The minutes from the February meeting were read by secretary Pat Hartley and agreed. Treasurer Christine Bennett read her report.
Landgate had won £15 in the 300 hundred draw which will help swell the funds a little.
There is a lovely walk through the bluebell in Arlington on May 7 which members can join.
Members wondered as spring seems to be coming quite early this year that May could be a bit late to see them at their best. However it would be a very pleasant walk.
If members were feeling lucky the National W.I. raffle tickets were for sale with some very interesting prizes on offer.
Arrangements for the refreshments, which Landgate will be serving at the annual town meeting on April 2 in the Community Centre, were confirmed.
This month's birthday girls were Mechtild Regandanz and Jean Watson and Kathy Hodges presented them with lovely spring daffodil posies and cards.
After refreshments and raffle members were delighted that member Joan Paul would be giving a demonstration of flower arranging.
After showing the various mechanics which can be used Joan showed how an arrangement is built up using flowers and twigs etc.
The finished arrangement of yellow and green foliage was presented to Kathy Hodges to take back to Devonport House for the residents to enjoy. Kathy thanked Joan for an inspiring demonstration.
The competition was won by Daphne Godwin with a beautiful carved angel. Jean Watson and Joan Jones came second and third.
The Scrabble meetings will be on April 1 and 14. Wishing everybody a happy Easter the meeting closed.
