DUE TO the president not being at the meeting this month, vice president Patsy Scott very ably conducted the business.
News of forthcoming events were announced and a reminder given of the trip to Knole Park next month also the summer lunch in August.

The main business of the afternoon revolved around how the institute would vote on the two resolutions to be put to the annual general meeting in Liverpool next month.

The first 'The inappropriate imprisonment of the severely mentally ill' provoked a long and lively discussion.

Finally however it was decided that we felt we did not understand enough about such an important subject to give a clear vote either way and it was therefore felt we should ask our delegate at the AGM to abstain.

The second resolution for a 'Ban on bottom trawling in the fishing the fishing industry' provoked less discussion and was agreed.

After so much talking we were able to relax with a light-hearted quiz, rounding off with our usual tea and cakes.

The winner of the competition, for a WI poster was Daphne Chapman.
