Today (Friday) is the monthly Coffee Morning market in the Village Hall, 9am -12noon. Stalls include jewellery, cards, ceramics, cheese, meats, jams, vegetables, plants, furniture, candles and wooden items. There is also the lure of coffee and cake which I know has its own following!

Don’t forget there is a Table Sale tomorrow (Saturday) in the Community Hall at 2 pm. A tombola and cake sale will also be on hand. To book a table you will need to contact 01797 224820.

This Sunday (27th May) is Pentecost/Whit Sunday and the 10.30 am Choral Eucharist service at St Thomas’ Church will be with the Junior Choir. Being the last Sunday of the month the charity collection will be for the Brooke Foundation.

Beckley Diamond Jubilee Dog Show. Saturday 2nd June 2012

The bridge works on Junction Road were completed on Saturday and the road is now open to traffic travelling to Hawkhurst and onwards to Maidstone.

Some twenty parishioners attended the Annual Parish Assembly and Annual Council Meeting in St Mary’s Community Hall last Wednesday evening, May 16. Stuart Harland had been invited by the Council to outline progress to date with the scheme to establish a new venue for public performances in Rye, on the site of the former public library and part of the former further education centre.

The East Sussex County Council Mobile Library service will next be in the villages tomorrow, May 26:

On Tuesday 29 the Parish Council meets at the Village Hall at 8pm. This will be the last before the Jubilee Celebration week-end. All residents are welcome to attend and listen to the deliberations and, at the descretion of the Chairman, may contribute if relevant.

The events are published at the foot of this column and volunteers are required to assist in the preparations for the fete and clearing-up afterwards.

The Seagulls Over Burwash Club are holding their AGM tonight at The Bear, Burwash, at 7.30pm. All Members and prospective members are welcome to attend, to find out how their the first year as a Brighton & Hove supporters club has gone and plans for the next season.

At the meeting of Pett Parish Council held on May 15 the Chairman, Andrew Dunlop and Vice-Chairman, Dr Jillian Green, were re-elected unopposed. Apart from a few minor changes, which will appear on the back of Pett Parish News, the areas of responsibility for the councillors remained largely unchanged.

Mountfield & Whatlington school summer fete will be held on Saturday July 7th from 11.30 am until 2pm. Please do come and try and support the local school. This is for the diaries another reminder will be placed nearer the time.

Ashburnham and Penhurst book group gets together on Friday May 25. This month, they are reading Dickens’ “Our Mutual Friend”. Their next book will be “A Spot of Bother” by Mark Haddon, (who wrote The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time), and the reviews are excellent. Don’t forget the Flower Festival at Peasmarsh church takes place this weekend, the church will be open from mid day Friday, 10 - 5 on Saturday and 11 - 5 on Sunday instead of Saturday to Monday as in previous years. There will be the usual well-stocked Plant Stall and Food and Drink available all day.

I need to start by making an apology to Councillors Paul Osbourne and Keith Glazier as I muddled them both up at the Camber Annual Assembly recently.

We are rapidly approaching Jubilee weekend and a varied programme of events has been prepared. Buy your bunting now and have it up ready for the village photographs to be taken and don’t forget to order your mugs as well. Themed scarecrows should also be erected. A total of £835.08 was raised in memory of William Wickstead and will go to Sandhurst Football Club, which William played such a big part in.

The Jubilee fayre takes place next Saturday June 2 , and there will lots of activity on and around the Green and the Queens Head. Everything will be open from 1pm. Messy England will be attending .

For over 21 years Etchingham Church has been the venue for a Music Festival during the first week of July. This year will run from Saturday July 7 to Sunday July 15.
