Sunday 13 10.30 Parish Eucharist celebrating the Baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist

The 2013 Good Beer Guide published by CAMRA, the Real Ale fans, includes both Icklesham’s pubs of course.

Recycling collections return to the normal pattern on Tuesday 15 January when black wheelie bins for general waste should be taken away.

Last weekend Manor Farm Oast was hectic The producer had found the location on the internet and her American TV filming crew from A.M.S. arrived. The TV series in the USA is ‘’Homes and Gardens’’. The actual program( American remember) is ‘’You live in a What !!?’’. There are no Oats Houses across the Atlantic. The blue room in one of the round kilns amazed them where the acoustics where so perfect that Syd Mylrea was told to breathe quietly.. Filming was both in the Oast and in the gardens where the cowl was a fitting background when Kate Mylrea was interviewed. The crew used old photographs which were found. The Oast originally had 3 conical kilns and now it has 2. A recent guest enjoying the B&B showed how it was in 1948 when she last came to the working farm writing her University thesis on hops. The next location for the crew is a converted watermill near Exeter

The Mylreas will be sent a copy of the finished programme but if anybody sees it coming on one of the many channels we get in Britain I’d be very grateful if you let me know.

January 30 1855 Sarah Wheeler died in Icklesham and has an expensive gravestone under a tall yew tree on the south side of the Church.

I must confess I enjoy the Downton Abbey series, before it Upstairs Downstairs and any other programme dealing with the relationships between families and their servants. Iam intrigued by Sarah . Her last 10 years was in the vicarage which in Victorian times had at least 2 fulltime servants. Before that Sarah spent 30 years in the service of one family. Sarah was 47 when she died. I am trying to find out which family she was in service with and in which big house. And what work did she do when she started in service at the age of seven.
