Youngsters can find out what it's like to be a television presenter when ITV's Junior Newsreader Challenge comes to the Arndale Centre today.
The challenge, run by a team from ITV Meridian, invites children to have a go at reading a news bulletin to camera, using autocue, and they will be able to take away a DVD of their performance.

A mini 'studio' will be set up in the Arndale Centre between 10am and 5pm.

The challenge is free to enter, but parental consent must be given.

Meridian Tonight presenter Ian Axton will drop in during the day to give advice to children keen to follow in his footsteps.

He said, "When I was young, I desperately wanted to become a television newsreader, so I would have jumped at the chance of taking a challenge like this.

"I'm sure that all the children taking part in Junior Newsreader will have great fun finding out just what the job entails."

A film crew from Meridian Tonight will also be reporting on the challenge for that evening's programme.
