A ditch behind the children's playground in Pevensey Recreation Ground is a cause for concern, according to the parish council.
Councillors say the ditch, which contains debris and stagnant water, needed to be cleared given its close proximity to the play area.

Cllr Lin McKeever said the ditch was 'a mess'.

Chairman of Pevensey Parish Council Cllr John Grout said, "The whole ditch is a problem.

"There is rubbish and there is stagnant water and the problem is that we, as a council, and Wealden District Council have never done any real maintenance.

"It is now at its worst and one of these days there could be a nasty accident."

Councillors discussed the issue at a meeting in St Wilfrid's Hall, Pevensey Bay, on Tuesday (April 1) and agreed to approach Wealden about clearing the area.

Pevensey Parish Council will also contact the Environment Agency to seek advice on the stagnant water.

Cllr John Grout added, "I think it is important we get some professional advice to find out the best way to move forward."
