Family escape house fire
A FAMILY escaped unhurt when a fire broke out at their Old Town home in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Fire crews from Eastbourne and Hailsham were called to the house in Colwood Crescent at 12.30am after a report that people were trapped inside.
Around 15 firefighters discovered smoke coming from the property when they arrived at the scene but all the occupants had managed to get out of the two storey building.
They used hose reel jets to put out the fire which had broken out in an upstairs bedroom.
Police officers rushed to the scene along with an ambulance crew which checked the occupants for any signs of injury. No-one was taken to hospital.
A spokesperson for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said smoke alarms fitted inside the house had undoubtedly saved the lives of the occupants.
There was significant smoke damage inside the house.
