Success for indie band
A GUITAR band from Eastbourne has been placed on Radio 1's offical playlist after winning a newcomers' competition on Zane Lowe's alternative music show.
Data Select Party, who released their single Girls Allowed last Monday, have spent two years on the road writing and playing their music with £1 a day to spend on food.
But their hard work has now paid off, with the band not just winning DJ Zane Lowe's Fresh Meat vote but playing a live session on BBC-6 Music and being featured in the best new music section of August's Rock Sound magazine.
The indie band, formed in 2006, are Hugo Edwards, 21, Dan Quanstrom, 25, James Monnington, 24, and Tom Groome, 20. All the boys went to school in Eastbourne.
Their single is about boys being young and wanting to keep girls out of their way and out of their treehouses. They hope to soon record a mini-album.
The band will play at The Hope pub in Brighton on August 19.
