Adrian Gray has achieved a career high ranking following his darts exploits in the United States of America last week.
St Leonards ace Gray is up to 27th on the PDC order of merit after reaching the quarter-finals of the PartyPoker.net Las Vegas Desert Classic VII.

The 27-year-old has gone above Wes Newton, Mick McGowan, Alex Roy and Wayne Jones, and is within £84 of 26th-ranked Mark Walsh.

Gray came through four matches in qualifying before knocking out 10th-ranked Wayne Mardle and Sam Rooney in the event proper at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino.

He then took a 3-1 lead against 13-time World Champion and eventual winner Phil Taylor only to be beaten 11-4 in front of the Sky Sports television cameras.

Carpet fitter Gray, meanwhile, has been drawn against Dennis Priestley in round one of the Stan James World Matchplay at The Winter Gardens, Blackpool.

Gray, nicknamed The Conqueror, and 12th-ranked Priestley will go head-to-head at 1pm on Monday July 21 live on Sky Sports.

The local man made it into the 32-man £300,000 event as one of 16 qualifiers through the Players Championship order of merit.
