The 31-year-old wants to win the Sussex County Football League Division Two title in his first foray into management.

Jones replaces Steve Johnson who stood down at the end of the recently concluded season after 11 years at the club - five-and-a-half as manager, and will head up a new yet-to-be confirmed management team.

"We' ve not taken on the job to finish second," he said.
"We fully believe the new management team can take the club forward and create a title-winning side. Steve has assembled a cracking squad of players, but we want to add to it and strengthen it."

Former Hastings Town (now United) man Jones joined Westfield from Hailsham Town in October 2001 and has been a key figure during the most successful period in the club's history.

Jones has been one of the most prolific goalscorers on the County League scene for years and helped The Parishioners win their first senior trophy last month.

His steely determination and natural ability to rally the troops when the chips are down have always made Jones something of an on-field leader.

"It (management) is something I've always wanted to do, but I wasn't sure when. I've got a great affection for the club and, when the opportunity arose, it was too good to pass up," he went on.

Jones says he will wait and see whether or not he will continue playing.
Dominic Clarke was the big winner, meanwhile, at the club's 2007-08 season-ending presentation evening at Venue M on Saturday.

Clarke, who turns 25 today (Friday), picked up the players' player, manager's player and supporters' player of the year awards following a campaign in which he scored 15 goals.

Darryn Elliott scooped the second team players' player and manager's player accolades, while George Driver did likewise in the thirds.

The Monty Eldridge Trophy for the club's leading scorer went to Darrol Parris with 31 strikes and the Emma Weightman Trophy for the most improved player was won by Jason Miller.

Clubman of the year was Nick Stretton and special presentations were made to Johnson from the club and the players in recognition of his considerable efforts.
