Organisers of the Hastings 100th Anniversary Marathon have made an appeal for information over a piece of local sporting history.
The Hastings Lions Club is urgently looking for descendants of the first Hastings man to finish the original race back in 1908.

His name was George White and he received a silver cup weighing 25oz as well as a medal for his endeavours.

Race director Eric Hardwick said: "We know that White is a popular name in the Hastings area, but we would ask all those families with the name of White to check if they had a George White living in the 1908 era, and if there are any close decendants living in Hastings now."

Hardwick added that it would be a bonus if the original cup and medal could be found, but any feedback would be appreciated by email to racedirector@hastings-half.co.uk

Chris Langdon, of Young, Langdon and Coles Solicitors, will supply the cup for the first Hastings man to finish in 2008 in memory of former partner Fred Cole, who was on the organising committee in 1908.

The 26-mile race will take place on Sunday December 14 and has already attracted more than 1,000 entries.
