Priory contest close-fought draw

HASTINGS Priory had to settle for a draw after a tense encounter against Cuckfield in the Sussex Cricket League.


Priory made 227-9 at Horntye Park Sports Complex thanks in the main to skipper Jason Finch (80), plus cameo knocks from James Pooley (26) and John Morgan (22).

A fine 56 from Tom Mole and 56 not out from Jack Waghorn guided Cuckfield to 173-3 with 10 overs to go.

But then five wickets tumbled in quick succession in leave them on 196-9 as Chris Morris bagged 4-41 and Morgan 2-61.

Bexhill came out on top in match reduced to a Twenty20 contest after rain delayed the start at The Polegrove.

Littlehampton made 121-6 but 43 from Shaun Austin and 37 from Luke Wright saw Bexhill home for the lose of four wickets.

A tight finish looked in prospect at St James' Montefiore where Sidley were the visitors when the umpires decided the rain was too heavy.

Elliot Bullock hit 40 in a Sidley score of 182-8 declared as left-arm spinner George Taylor claimed 6-34.

Stephen Ades made 65 in a St James total of 149-6 from 34.2 overs in reply as Scott Woodroffe picked up 3-10.
