HASTINGS Priory retained top spot in the Sussex Cricket League with victory over Chichester Priory Park on Saturday.

Preston Nomads remain hot on their heels after brushing aside Stirlands but fellow title hopefuls Eastbourne came a cropper against Brighton & Hove.

Hastings remain 13 points clear in the Premier Division but Preston have two games in hand, as do Eastbourne who sit a further 32 points back.

Put into bat, Hastings totalled 217-8 off 45 overs with Adam Maharaj-Newman top-scoring with an undefeated 69. James Beeny (41) and James Pooley (34) were the other main run-getters, while Steve Sedgley (5-81) accounted for the top five batsmen.

In reply, the hosts struggled against the pace of John Morgan (3-49) and spin of Mick Glazier who returned figures of 6-78 as Chichester were skittled out for 184.

In Division Two, Bexhill had the better of a draw against fellow promotion hopefuls Haywards Heath, while Sidley slipped to an eight-wicket defeat at the hands of Roffey.
