Battle marksman Steve Scott has been selected to represent Great Britain at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
The double-trap shooter was included in the squad announced by the British Olympic Association for the Games which run from August 8-24.

Scott, 23, started shooting just six years ago after a friend suggested he tried the sport and since then has gone from strength to strength.

In 2003 he won the World and European Team Championships and had a taste of the Olympics after attending the 2004 Games in Athens as an official reserve.

Inspired by what he saw in Athens, Scott has continued to perform on the world circuit, winning individual bronze at the European Championships in 2007 and attending the Olympic Test event at the Olympic venue in April. Continued success over the last two years has ensured his place in Team GB for China.

He said: "I am delighted to have been selected to attend the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. I have been working really hard on all aspects of the sport over the last few years and, after going as a reserve in 2004, it will be fantastic to now go as a competitor."

He went on: "It hasn't really sunk in yet that I am going to Beijing. When I get on the plane, that's when I will get nervous, until then I will continue my preparations to get myself in the best possible shape."

Scott works at the Bexhill branch of B&Q and is part of the Team B&Q programme which allows him to train full-time. "I just hope I can do everyone proud, especially my work colleagues, and bring back a medal," he said.

Jim Hunter, general manager at B&Q Bexhill, commented: "I am delighted that Steve has been selected to represent Great Britain at the Olympics. Everyone at B&Q will be behind him every step of the way and we will look forward to welcoming him back in-store to hear his Olympic story."
