Sidley United's brave bid for survival finally came to an end on Tuesday night.
The Blues have been cast adrift at the foot of Division One of the Sussex County Football League for much of the season until a late rally gave them hope.

But that hope was extinguished by a 1-0 loss at home to an impressive Arundel side on a chilly evening at Gullivers.

With one game to go, Sidley are guaranteed to finish in the bottom two and are now reliant on events elsewhere conspiring to save them.

There is a possibility that Horsham YMCA won't be relegated into Division One should they finish second-from-bottom in Ryman Division One South.

And Rustington won't be eligible for promotion from Division Two for reasons of ground grading should they secure a top three finish.

Rye United, who survived despite coming second-bottom for each of the last two seasons, are teetering on the brink after a 3-1 loss at home to Hassocks.

Rock-bottom United are seven points from safety with three games remaining, two of which are against Arundel and the other is away to Selsey.

Sam Edwards made it 1-1 in the 22nd minute, but two goals in the final half-an-hour sealed the fate of a heavily depleted Rye side.

United's Joe Lambert was shown a straight red card for stamping on Michael Bates 15 minutes from time and followed it up with a verbal attack on referee David Spain.

Westfield's hopes of a top six finish in Division Two are all but over after a 2-0 defeat at mid-table Wealden.

But the good news is that Bexhill United continue to go from strength to strength following a 2-0 win at Uckfield Town in Division Three.

Goals from Neil Quigley and Warren Parsons made it an incredible 14 successive victories for Paul Tuppenney's charges.

Bexhill need to win two of their final three matches to overtake Haywards Heath Town and claim the second promotion berth behind champions Loxwood.
