Table tennis joy for Bennett family

Hollington B have been crowned champions of the Hastings & District Table Tennis Association's Team Handicap Competition.
The team of Jack, Joshua and Teresa Bennett clinched the title courtesy of a 5-1 win over Tigers D at Civil Service Sports & Social Club last night.
Hollington have been the dominant side throughout the 17-team event and they opened up a 4-0 lead in the final, although the first three matches all went to a deciding game.
Tigers got themselves on the scoreboard by taking match five, but the outcome was decided in the next when Jack, 11, comfortably saw off Trevor Towner.
Result - Hollington B 5, Tigers D 1: Joshua Bennett (+14) beat Laurence Dodd 18-21, 21-3, 21-12; Teresa Bennett beat Trevor Towner (+14) 19-21, 22-20, 22-20; Jack Bennett (+7) beat Roger Smith 14-21, 21-12, 21-19; Teresa beat Dodd (+11) 21-15, 21-17; Joshua (+12) lost to Smith 22-24, 18-21; Jack (+5) beat Towner 21-17, 21-13.
Both teams decided to play the remaining three matches and Teresa, mother of Jack and Joshua, was beaten by Smith (receiving 13) 13-21, 5-21.
Jack used his 10 start to overcome Dodd 21-11, 21-17, while eight-year-old Joshua sunk Towner 17-21, 21-18, 21-9 with the aid of an 11 start.
Competition organiser, Peter Harding, presented trophies to the winners and runners-up, and to Civil Service ace Paul Barry, the best individual performer among those not reaching the final.
