The bodies of Paul Ross, six, and his brother Jay, two, were discovered in a parked car at a beauty spot north of Glasgow on Saturday.

Their mother Giselle, of the city's Royston area, described the pair as "irreplaceable" and said they did not deserve to die.

A man believed to be their father, named by neighbours as Ashok Kalyanjee, remains in a critical condition in hospital after being found at the scene with severe burns. He is under police guard.

It is understood the boys' father was estranged from their mother.

Ms Ross said: "They did not deserve to die. Paul wasn't even allowed to play outside in case he came to any harm.

"Both boys loved their mum - they were real mummy's boys. They are irreplaceable and are greatly missed by all the family."

The boys were discovered near Lennoxtown, East Dunbartonshire. Paul, a pupil at Royston Primary School, was described by head teacher Liz Davidson as "a lovely, well-behaved, quiet young boy".

She paid tribute to the "sweet boy" as shocked pupils prepared to return to classes for the first time since the tragedy. She also revealed that a special service would be conducted at the school on Thursday.

She added: "Paul adapted very well to school. His mum doted on him and his little brother. It was clear to anyone that saw them that the boys were well looked after and loved."
