New Year's Eve is a time for reflection. What could I have done better in the year that's gone? What do I want to achieve in the year to come?
A new year is not just a date in the calendar. It's an opportunity to renew our selves and review our goals.

In my personal life I guess those goals are not too ambitious – I'd like to be able to write legibly for one thing, so that at least I could understand what I'd written! (Not only ambitious but nearly a miracle my staff might say…) And yet again I intend not to take up smoking! (Success is sweet.)

But more than that I want to spend this New Year not only questioning but looking for answers. It can be so wasteful of time and energy complaining about things we can't change when there is so much to be done about things that we can.

So my new year's resolution is to spend 10% of my time identifying problems and 90% on solutions. I hope "Observer" readers will join me in looking for positive answers.

I truly hope that 2008 will be a peaceful and rewarding year for you all.
