Thousands of rocket-loving revellers jammed the streets of Battle yesterday to watch Bonfire 2007.
The annual display, one of the biggest of the bonfire events for which Sussex is renowned, started in the morning with a procession to display the 'Oldest Guy in the World' on the Abbey Green.

The evening's torch-lit procession made its way past the Abbey three times on its journey to Senlac Field where the huge crowd watched bonfire groups from all over the county surround a massive bonfire.

They then enjoyed a spectacular firework display, which culminated in the destruction of this year's effigy.

Pictures taken by our photographer, Justin Lycett, can be viewed by clicking on the pictures on the right.

The Observer filmed the event for a video which will be available to watch on www.ryeandbattleobserver.co.uk early next week.
