After 27 years looking after older people at a Hastings care home, carer Joan Martin is looking forward to retirement.
Joan, 66, was given a "lovely" send-off by staff and residents at Mountside on Laton Road this week.
Joan said: "I do enjoy the work. Who's going to look after the elderly? We're all going to get old.
"I will miss it. It's going to be a great wrench.
"I was quite emotional on the last day. Everyone came out of their rooms, and they don't always do that because they find it difficult, and the number of staff that came to wish me well as well.
"I was quite overwhelmed."
She said she might even consider Mountside when she's older: "It's a very good home. The manager and staff are very good, and quite dedicated."
But for now she will be spending time with her husband Noel, three children, and five grandchildren, as well as doing some much-needed DIY at home.
