Police have reopened a road in Hastings town centre after it was cordoned off following a domestic disturbance.
Officers put up blockades at both ends of Devonshire Road just before 2pm today (Monday) to prevent vehicles and pedestrians passing.
Police later allowed residents to go back to their homes one at a time.
Around 30 police officers, a dozen police vehicles, including an armed response unit, attended the scene.
A witness said the road was 'swarming with police'.
Shane Kitching, of Filsham Road, said he could not go to his girlfriend's flat in Devonshire Road because of the cordon.
He said that he saw up to 20 police officers going into a basement flat.
A Sussex Police spokesman said the road was reopened just before 5pm after the street was sealed off for almost four hours.
He said it was a domestic disturbance which had escalated.
One person has been arrested.
