The popular Hopkele Klezmer Keilidh will make a welcome return to the Stade Open Space on Saturday, June 22, at 7.30pm.
Luckily, Ilana Cravitz and the Hopkele band were available at short notice, after the Austrian Circus Drumatical Theatre Company pulled out of their Stade Saturday’s performance and subsequent performances at the White Rock Theatre.
Hopkele is the familiar ceilidh, barn dance format with one essential difference – the music and steps are old-style Jewish, rather than Celtic.
The musicians put a 21st-century spin on 21st-century spin on traditional Eastern European Yiddish dances, including lively freylekhs, sinuous horas and upbeat bulgars.
This is barn dancing Jewish-style, for all ages and abilities.” Ilana Cravitz, a professional violinist of klezmer music said: “June 22 was the only free date we had this summer, and after the great reception we received last July, we couldn’t refuse a return trip to Hastings.
“Let’s just hope the weather is a little better this year!”
The keilidh begins at 7.30pm.
