Anecdotes past and present from ex-MP

ONE-time politician, now broadcaster, documentary maker and social commentator, Michael Portillo is to make an appearance at the De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill, on March 19.

An Audience With Michael Portillo will see him share experiences and anecdotes, and take questions from the audience.

He said: “They can expect a few jokes, a few anecdotes, a few reflections of my political life.

“Obviously I have made a lot of speeches in my life, but this will be a more reflective event.

“There will be plenty of time for questions, and they may even get some answers.”

The former MP for Kensington and Chelsea, first took a seat in parliament in 1984.

Portillo’s political career included a leadership contest and a dramatic election defeat at Enfield Southgate in 1997 after holding the seat for 13 years.

He left the House of Commons in 2005 and since then his career in television and radio has taken off.

There are 20 new episodes of popular BBC travel documentary series Great British Rail Journeys, which Portillo presents, in the pipeline, along with six new episodes of Great Continental Rail Journeys.

He also appears regularly on political review show This Week, and Radio 4’s The Moral Maze.
