Thieves stole thousands of pounds, a car and two shotguns in an armed robbery at a home in Northiam last night (Sunday, February 21).

Four men wearing balaclavas and dark clothing broke into a house in Ewhurst Lane at around 8pm whilst the owners were in the lounge.

The suspects smashed through French doors at the back of the house with one of them carrying a hammer.

A 51-year-old man was hit in the head and suffered a small cut before being forced to open a safe.

A 47-year-old woman was told to hand over car keys.

The suspects left with several thousands pounds in cash, a number of trophies and two shotguns for which the owner had a license.

They then took a black Toyota Hilux from the driveway and drove off.

Detective Inspector Rob Morland said: “This violent but isolated incident has understandably been a distressing ordeal for the victims.

“I would urge anyone who was in the area and saw something suspicious to get in touch.”
