Father Christmas will be arriving in Battle on Saturday (November 29) to make the town sparkle in the build-up to Christmas.
Battle’s Christmas lights are famous throughout Rother and the big switch-on will be taking place at 5pm.
It is start of much anticipated celebrations in the town which include the special Gala Shopping Night and, this year, glowing igloos on the Abbey Green in which minced pies and mulled wine will be served.
The fun on Saturday starts earlier in the day with Father Christmas spending the afternoon of that day greeting children in his grotto in the Memorial Hall in the High Street.
With his trusty band of helpers, he will ensure that his young visitors have lots of fun. Parents and other adults are not forgotten and can enjoy the tea, coffee and cakes provided by the ladies of the Saxonwood WI and browse the gifts and wares on sale in the popular Charity Market.
Before that Battle Air Cadets are holding a Christmas Craft Fair at St Mary’s Church Hall on Saturday from 10am - 2pm.
The Christmas lights are installed and maintained by volunteers from the Battle Chamber of Commerce.
Father Christmas will be back in town on Thursday December 11 when the Gala Night takes place. He will take up residence in the Abbey Gatehouse.
If you cannot wait until Saturday’s big switch-on there is a special pre-Christmas edition of the Every Last Friday (ELF) music and arts night.
Venues across the town will be dressed to impress and playing host to live music and other performances.
Places taking part on Friday November 28 are Mrs Burtons, Nobles, The Bull, Battle Club and the Kings Head and the entertainment happens between 7pm and 10pm.
After 10pm musicians and artists will be gathering at the Bull in the High Street for a major jam session. For more details email Christine Pond at email@example.com.
