Ewhurst and Staplecross Bonfire Society will be keeping the old Sussex tradition of wassailing the apple trees alive on Friday February 27.

The new event on their fund-raising calendar takes place at Quarry Farm, Bodiam, from 6.30pm onwards.

Parking is available at the orchard entrance and people will make their way up a torch-lit track through the orchards to the clearing where the celebrations take place.

A licensed bar is provided and a good selection of hot food and drinks will be available, including mulled cider and chilli, soup, burgers and hot dogs.

The track is suitable for push chairs.

Don’t forget to bring old pots or pans, or anything you can bang, bash, crash or use to make a racket.

Everyone will be encouraged to join in the ceremony which will include music and drumming and generally making a lot of noise.
