BREAKING: Armed police called to Hastings incident

A major police operation has been underway after shots were fired in a busy Hastings street.

Police received reports of a gun being fired at a property in Devonshire Road just before 5.50pm on Sunday (February 28).

A firearms unit and the police helicopter were scrambled to the scene after one report said two people had got out of a car and fired a gun at a building.

Police discovered the shots had caused damage to a door and a window at the front of the multi-occupancy property. No one was hurt.

A man and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent and taken to custody to be questioned.

Devonshire Road was closed but has now re-opened.

Police say the incident is not terrorist-related.

Inspector James Scott said,“This is a fast moving investigation and we have arrested two people for a firearms offence. We are appealing for witnesses who saw the shooting or anyone who has any information to contact us.

“We are doing all we can to reassure residents but anyone who is concerned can speak our officers who are in Devonshire Road at the scene.”
