A WOMAN has died after the car she was driving collided with a lorry in Rye this afternoon (Tuesday).
Emergency services were called to the A259, Winchelsea Road, at 2.15pm after a collision between a Peugeot 197 saloon and a delivery lorry.
The woman, believed to be in her sixties, was trapped in the vehicle and was tragically confirmed dead at the scene.
The lorry driver was not hurt.
The A259 was closed in both directions and diversions are currently in place.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: “The road closure has caused severe congestion which is likely to last into at least part of the evening rush hour, and we are advising drivers to avoid the immediate Rye and Winchelsea areas if at all possible for time being.
“Drivers are thanked for their patience at this difficult time.”
