If you have an item of news that you wish to have in this column please give me plenty of notice. This weeks column below was sent on Monday 31 March for Friday 4 April edition. Three weeks notice of an event would be very helpful to ensure its enclusion.

I placed this item in the column last week but just in case any of you budding footballers missed it, I have moved it to the top of the column. David Mayne has contacted me to publicise Icklesham Casuals Football Club. They are looking ahead to 2014/15 season, and would welcome anyone who would be interested in playing for the friendly village club next season; you need to be over 16 years of age in order to play in the East Sussex Football League. If you are16 during the season but not yet16 but interested in playing in the future please also contact them. The club was founded over 75 years ago, it has a strong base but would welcome off the pitch support from anyone who would like to be involved in helping to run the club, before, during or after the matches. Friday 4 April Pilates begin at 9am in Udimore Parish Hall. The Usual weekly Farmers Market in Brede Village Hall from 10am – noon selling a myriad of produce and goods. The Brede & Udimore lent lunches continue, today they are hosting the lunch in Udimore Parish Hall from 12 until 1.30pm. Everyone is welcome; the more the merrier donations are welcome.. Short Mat Bowls are also in the Brede Village Hall at 7.30pm.

Saturday 5 April Table Sale – 9.30am – 2.30pm The Village Hall Committee is holding a pre-loved Children’s clothing and toy table sale. It is your chance to have a Spring clean and clear out all those unwanted things that have become clutter and will possibly earn you some extra cash. Book in advance; standard tables are £5 and large tables £8, please phone Maggie Sandra 01424 883149 to make your booking.

The Brede big Steam Giants hold nostalgic magic, it is open today from 10am – 4pm in Waterworks Lane Brede entrance is usually free. The big giants are a wonder to behold and children and adults love it.

At 9.30am the Blackbrook Garden Centre’s talk today is about Japanese Maples, Magnolias and Pieris

Sunday 6 April at 9.30am the Family Eucharist begins at St Georges Brede. It was so lovely to see so many families in the Church for Mothering Sunday. The Methodist Church holds it’s service at 10am and Mr David Hampson is the Preacher. If you like Rat Pack music then pop into the Rainbow Trout bar from 7pm to hear Mr Swing in action.

Monday 7 April Age Uk East Sussex – Brede Community Club begins at 10.30am. During the morning news items will be discussed and games and musical bingo played. Lunch follows, then the afternoon session has Ruth a singer joining them for the entertainment. All day sessions, mornings only or afternoons only are available. The Uniformed groups meet this evening beginning with the Rainbows In the small Hall at 4.00pm followed at 5.30pm by the Brownies.

In the Scout Hut Beavers begin at 5.30pm to 6.30pm this is for 6 – 8 year olds and from 6.30 – 8.00pm Cubs which is for 8 - 10½ year olds.

Guides meet at Udimore Hall at 7.15pm. In Brede Village Hall at 7.30pm the Whist Players meet to enjoy each other’s company and have a game of cards.

Tuesday 8 April the Brede Painting for Pleasure group will begin to paint at 9.30am in Brede Village Hall. Pilates begins at 9am in Udimore Hall. The Rainbow Trout holds it’s Local Night this evening, there will be a Darts competition from 8pm.

Wednesday 9 April There is a lent lunch of soup bread and cheese in Udimore Hall at 12.00 everyone is welcome, a donation however big or small for the lunch is very welcome. Brede WI meet at 2pm and will be celebrating their 87th Birthday. Visitors from other local WI’s have been invited to join them for their Birthday Tea.

Thursday 10 April Stretch and Tone with Sally to loosen and shape those muscles is at 9.30am in Brede Village Hall she will be pleased to welcome you to her class. At 11am a coffee morning with an activity making Easter Cards (cost for activity £1) is being organised by Tina in the Rainbow Trout. The Friendly Circle ladies have an open evening and would welcome male or female visitors. This evening’s topic is ‘Art from the Heart’ and their guest is Keith Collins a well known watercolour artist who is going to give a demonstration. Having seen him in action before no one will be disappointed unless they do not go and take advantage of this wonderful opportunity, the evening begins at 7.30pm.

Friday 11 April Pilates begin at 9am in Udimore Parish Hall. The weekly Farmers Market in Brede Village Hall is open from 10am –12pm. The Post Office services are in Broad Oak Stores from 11am – 1pm. Short Mat Bowls are in the Brede Village Hall at 7.30pm. WEA Gardening course continues in Udimore Hall at 10.30am

Saturday 12 April your Help would be very appreciated at 9am to join with others to Spring Clean St George’s Church and Churchyard. If you could take your own brooms and dusters etc it would also be appreciated. Winchelsea Singers Spring Concert at St. Thomas the Martyr Church at 7.30pm. It will include Vivaldi’s “Gloria”, works by Purcell and the premiere of a very moving Anthem to commemorate the 1st World War, written by Hermione Roff. Entrance is by a £10.00 Programme that is available at the door. A bar is also available. Do go and support the local singers and hear a wonderful concert.

Flowers in memory of a loved one – if you would like someone remembered this Easter then Sue Sturmey would be delighted to take your name and that of your loved one. Lilies are purchased and arranged around St George’s Church the cost is £2.50 per lily. Sue’s number is 01424 882544

BOB’s are running a competition to name the boat on the recreation ground. If you wish to have your picture in the paper write your suggested name and your name, address and phone number on a piece of paper and put it in an envelope with a 50p donation and send it to Ashville Udimore Road. If you wish to deliver it by hand the house is between the Bakery and School or you can send it to Elm Tree Cottage Rhia’s Glade which is behind the Bakery which by the way has lovely cakes and bread but also does different meats.

Future Events

Wednesday 16 April Brede Parish Council Annual Assembly. Everyone in the Parish should have received their Parish Council Magazine with the flyer for the Assembly listing the guess for the evening and also the Easter services at the Church. If you have not, then please contact Lesley Banister Clerk to the Parish Council 01424 882800 as soon as possible. If anyone on the Parish boundary are interested beside Parish Councillors reports the Hastoe Group – affordable housing, trading Standards, Rother Responders and Sussex Police will also give talks and be available to talk to at the Assembly.

Saturday 3 May Grand Sale and Coffee Morning 10am- 1pm at the Trinity Methodist Church, Udimore Road, Broad Oak.

Thursday 17 April the local National Trust is holding it’s monthly talks in Brede Village Hall. Joshua Lumley will be talking about Oriental and European Rugs
