Parish Council Newsletter: I have taken over writing it, only because I do not want it to stop as it goes to every house in the Village. If someone in the community feels they would like to do it, please contact me ASAP. Also I need material for it so, Please can every group in the village email me, again ASAP as I need to set it up for the 2nd week of July Issue

Queen’s 90th Birthday Celebrations: some events are already being put in place, for the weeks of June 6th - 14th it is exciting, that we should have all age groups catered for in the events planned so far.

Recently Departed: I feel really saddened to impart the news that Stella Parsons passed away on Saturday 5th March in the evening. For many years she lived with her family in a house on Brede Hill and was a regular member of the Congregation at Brede Church in deed becoming a sacrosanct and made the linen cloth for the Alter amongst other items also. I knew her first as my Guide Captain when I joined 1st Brede Guides which she led for many years. I also have to tell you that unfortunately Roy Stapley has also passed away those of you in Pottery Lane and round about will have known him and the family well. My thoughts and prayers are with both families and I hope you, my readers will join me. I am sorry I do not have details of their funerals in time for this column.

Hastoe Housing: Is on track to complete at the end of April. They have three 2 bed semi detached houses for sale on a shared ownership basis in the new development in Ostlers Field Broad Oak. There are A4 leaflets with all the information required in St George’s Church on the top of the cupboard on the right as you enter the Church. There are purchase requirements, the main one being you must have a local connection to the area, be a first time buyer, can demonstrate you meet the minimum income requirements, can demonstrate a deposit sufficient to obtain a mortgage for the property and be registered with your help to buy Agent: - Help to Buy East & South East 03333 214 044 www.helptobuyese.org.uk I hope this information is helpful to those of you with a view to look into the above.

Easter Lilies: please contact Sue Sturmey 01424 882544 The cost of the white lilies for Easter will be £2.50 per stem. Please let her know if you would like to purchase or donate lilies to be arranged in the Church for Easter in memory of a loved one, you will also need to give her the details of those you wish to be included in the Memorandum List, if you wish other blooms to be used this can be arrranged.

Friday 11 March: Yoga with Susan at 9.30am and WEA is at 11.30am both are in Udimore Community Hall.

Brede Farmers Market is from 10am – 12 noon in Brede Village Hall, I must say it looked so different last Friday with a French stall outside the Village Hall After talking with friends the first words I heard were ‘Bonjour Madame’ luckily I could repeat ‘Bonjour Monsieur’ back, as I do remember a bit of French despite school being a long time ago. Anyway, people were back on their stalls this week and the place was buzzing I am pleased to report.

Lent Lunch at the Vicarage in Brede, Martin and Vicky are hosting a Lent Lunch of home made soup, bread, cheese ) donations will be for the Brede & Udimore overseas group. This event has been held for a number of years and if you are free just turn up to this very friendly lunch at 12 noon, it will finish at 1.30pm. Last Saturday Brede Mother’s Union Lent Lunch raised £85.00 and wish to thank all those who donated soup and the Red Lion for providing the bread and to also thank those who came and enjoyed the lovely meal provided.

At 7.30pm this evening the Short Mat Bowls Players will be in the Brede Village Hall.

Saturday 12 March: Ballet Classes are in the Village Hall at 10am and later at 7.30pm there will be a Murder Mystery Evening.

Sunday 13 March: Church Services are as follows: Father Anthony White conducts the Mass service at 9.00 am in St Theresa’s Catholic Church on the old Northiam Road, if you need to contact the Father his number is 01424 773125

At 10.30am the Reverend Peggy Heim will be taking the service in the Methodist Church in Broad Oak. The Reverend Peggy Heim is also the Pastoral Minister and she can be contacted on 01424 422350.

Monday 14 March: Age Uk East Sussex Brede Community Club will meet in Brede Village Hall at 10 .30am to begin their day with coffee, news and darts, board games, painting /colouring and after lunch Steve and his guitar will be entertaining. The day can be split into two now, so if you only wish to go for the afternoon you may do so also they have a mini bus now so transport is not a problem; for more information please contact Mrs Maureen Distin on 07850 987130.

Whist players will be in Brede Village Hall at 7.30pm

The Guiding section meet in the small hall of Brede Village Hall; the Rainbows meet from 4.15- 5.15pm, they welcome girls aged between 5-7 years, Julie Piper can be contacted on 01424 883464 or mobile 07863599537. Tuesday 15 March: Pilates with Laura at 9.15am in Udimore Community Hall. Followed by another session at 10.15am. The Brede Painting for Pleasure group meet in Brede Village Hall at 9.30am.

Messy Church is in Udimore Community Hall at 4pm he 1st Brede Scouts are in the Scout Hut from 7pm – 9pm. and any young person 10½ or over is welcome. The contact is Andy Bishop 07811339626 Please contact me, 01424 882037 to book the Scout Hut, the cost for the Hall which includes Kitchen, and Main Hall is £6.00 per hour and overnight camping for groups is £3.00 per person per night. The Group has a large field at the back suitable for camping and the large Hall has a leaders room at the side for indoor camping. Use of the gas barbecue is £10 (gas included)

Wednesday 16 March: Pilates are with Laura in Udimore Community Hall at 9.15 and 10.15am.

Mobile Library will be in Reedswood Road in Broad Oak from 1pm – 1.35pm it will then travel to Brede Village Hall Car park for 1.45pm until 2.15pm. Sedlescombe & District Garden Society (SDGS) still have some tickets left for “An Evening with Tom Hart Dyke” TV personality,and heir to the family seat of Lullingstone Castle in Eynsford, Kent will be giving an illustrated talk on his vast horticultural experiences. Tom is an English horticulturist, author and plant hunter who presented an episode of The Great British Garden Revival shown on BBC2 in 2013. He created the World Garden of Plants located at Lullingstone which contains approximately 8,000 species of plants, many collected by Tom from their native environments. The story of the creation was featured in a BBC2 6-episode series “Save Lullingstone Castle” in 2006. The event will be free for SDGS members but non-members are welcome at a cost of £5.00 per person. (N.B. an annual family membership to the Society only costs £10.00 so why not join and take advantage of a full and varied programme of events for 2016) The event will take place at Sedlescombe Village hall and the doors will open at 6.30 p.m. for a 7.00 p.m. start. Refreshments will be provided as well as a raffle with some really good prizes. A lot of interest has already been shown for this event, so to avoid disappointment, please reserve your tickets by contacting Sue Parsons on 01580 831996.

Thursday 17 March: St Patricks Day Pilates with Laura at 9.30am with another session at 7.30pm both in Udimore Community Hall. Stretch and Tone with Sally in Brede Village Hall at 9.30am.

The Rye & District National Trust meet in Brede Village hall at 2pm and their speaker is Richard Eales and he will be talking about the Magna Carta Kent and Sussex.

Friday 18 March: Yoga with Susan in Udimore Community Hall at 9.30am. Brede Farmers Market is from 10am – 12 noon in Brede Village Hall. Brede and Udimore Overseas Group are holding another Lent Lunch at The Rectory Brede 12 noon to 1.30pm just turn up for a good meal. Donations gladly accepted towards the four Charities they support. 7.30pm the Short Mat Bowls Players will also be in Brede Village Hall.

Saturday 16 April: there will be a concert by the Regency Singers at 2.30 pm. at the Methodist Church in Broad Oak. No admission charge but donations welcome for church and refurbishment funds.

Judy Torrance has asked me to put the following in: A new date has been arranged for a talent evening – Friday May 20 in the Sedlescombe village hall, at 7pm . We expect to see singers, dancers, jugglers, musicians, in fact all types of entertainment are welcome to join in from the local and surrounding area. Places will be limited to allow for a fair opportunity for all taking part. There is no fee to enter and there will be a £100 awarded to the winner and runner up prizes too. Professional sound system and engineer will be available. If you would like to take part then please contact Jean Dann on 01424 882438 for further details, timings and to book your place.
