Lighting of the Brede Beacon: More than 50 residents of Broad Oak and Brede attended the lighting of the Beacon which was piled with wood as high as the pole that it fell off. Before it was lit refreshments were served in the Church Room which included Carrot and Parsnip soup courtesy of Gary from the Red Lion. The Beacon lit immediately and flames shot into the air to the delight of the children and adults. It was watched for a while then it was realized that Fairlight, Battle and other Beacons could be seen and excitement grew. People moved around to chatter to each other, it was a lovely evening although a bit cold. Many thanks to all who made it possible.
