As the new year begins i am just looking back to the last few weeks of 2013 when many events were held. The flower club coffee morning was a huge success raising £300 for club funds. The Children’s Society gained from the Christingle at St Bartholomew’s Church by £192.65 and by £50 from the Guides & Brownies coffee evening.

The Burwash Short mat bowls club met at the Bear Motel for their Christmas lunch and awards just before Christmas. This was a change from normal and meant no cooking or washing up for the ladies members. The awards were Memorial Cup winner Mick Moore runner up Joan Howard, Men’s Singles Barry Taylor winner Keith Wood Runner up. Ladies Singles Winner Angela Marden, Eileen Jarvis Runner up. Mixed pairs winners Joan Howard & Tim Brown Angela Marden & Keith Wood, runners up . Gavin Wood salver winner Angela Marden runner up Samantha Saunders. The club have returned to meeting on Monday evenings from 6.30pm. New members are always welcome, for more detail call Mary on 01435 882107 or just come along to the village hall one Monday.

The Christmas day lunch was again a very enjoyable event. Despite the weather and illness 18 people sat down to eat the delicious three course meal. !8 people who would otherwise have been alone. They enjoyed singing carols through lunch and each went home with a small gift. Our grateful thanks to Mr & Mrs moody from Frogheath Nurseries for the donation of the wine and to Eileen & Ted Craddock for the crackers & potatoes. Thank you to for all the help both from some who enjoyed the meal and from Lisa Neilson who just came and helped.

There are a couple quiz evenings in the next two weeks. the first is at the Pavilion in burwash common Tonight at 8pm. teams of six players. Entry fees given as prize money. The other one is on 18th Jan. at the burwash village hall and is open to teams of 8 players at £10 per person to include supper. Wine will also be available. The Burwash Not So Young club will meet on Thursday at the village hall from 2.15pm. This will be their AGM and will be followed by a fun game of Beetle Drive. New members, both ladies and men, are always welcome to attend this lively club for the over 60’s. Just go along next thursday or call Isabel Salmond on 01435 882452.
