Battle-lines were being drawn up in Rye this week as East Sussex County Council looks to slash bus service funding by more than half.
Pat Hughes, from Rye and District Community Transport, described proposals to cut funding from £1.8 million to £700,000 as “shocking” and “very dramatic.”
But she urged local bus users not to panic and said: “A lot has been said which frightens people but we want to respond in a thoughtful and constructive way.
“We are looking at this from every direction and working to ensure our community gets the best public transport system possible.”
The county council ha launched a 12 week county-wide consultation process into its subsidised bus services.
Sunday and off-peak services could be the worst affected if the cuts come into place.
