A café in Camber is vying for permission to extend the ground floor to provide a takeaway counter and a sandwich bar.

The Marina café on Old Lydd Road want to build two single-storey pitched roof extensions into the car park.

Their application will be considered by Rother District Council’s planning committee at a meeting tomorrow (Thursday, October 15).

There were no comments received from Camber Parish Council and Romney Marsh Drainage Board nor objections from residents.

The site is within the development boundary which means there is a presumption for development to be encouraged.

The report said the proposal would enhance the existing café and the design and materials are in keeping with the current building’s character and appearance.

There are a number of flats above the café but officers believe the proposal would not be detrimental to their living conditions.

“This is a modest proposal to improve the café facilities,” the report said.

“It will benefit the visitors to this popular seaside location, will not detract from the character and appearance of the area, and will not be detrimental to the living conditions of adjoining residents.

“Planning permission should therefore be granted.”

The Marina café have previously made four applications to the council for alterations to the café.

In 2007, they were granted permission for a single-storey extension for a burger and sandwich bar .

The green light was given for a balcony over the café in 2011 and an extension to the balcony was approved two years later.

Lastly, the reinstatement and ‘improvement’ beach deck was granted permission last year.
