Catsfield

Today is Good Friday and there will be a Watch of the Passion held in St Laurence’s church from 12pm – 3pm when you can come and sit for as long or short a time as you wish. The children’s workshop and Way of the Cross will start at the Village Hall from 1.30pm. There will be a service of Morning Prayer at 9am on Saturday. Following this the church will be decorated to celebrate Easter, donations of flowers and foliage will be gratefully received and there will be a box at the back of the church for donations towards the flowers. The Family Communion service on Easter Sunday will be at the usual time of 9.15am, with coffee served afterwards and an Easter Egg Hunt for the children. A service of Evensong will be held at 6pm.

The fundraisers for the church will be holding a Coffee Morning in the Village Hall on Saturday 26th April from 10am – 12noon and there will be Book and Cake stalls and a Raffle. Donations of books or cakes on the day would be greatly appreciated.

Last Saturday the Catsfield Horticultural Society’s Spring Show was held in the Village Hall. This enjoyable village event filled the hall with colourful flowers, skilful handicrafts and delicious exhibits in the cookery classes, as well as many entries in the children’s classes, all of which a large number of residents and visitors came to see on a pleasant spring afternoon. There were 197 entries in the show and the judges had a hard job choosing the winners. The organisers of the show were delighted with the numbers and the high standard of the exhibits on display and the hall was buzzing with people strolling round or sitting at tables enjoying tea throughout the afternoon.

On Thursday 24th April at 7.30pm the Annual Parish Assembly will be held in the Village Hall and it’s your opportunity to find out what the Catsfield Parish Council has been doing on your behalf throughout the past year.

Another annual meeting takes place on Monday 28th April, when the Parochial Church Council meets in the church at 7.30pm to discuss church matters and for the election of officers. All are welcome.

After the disappointment of being out of the cup final, we unfortunately did not bounce back with a win. In fact the firsts played twice against Wadhurst away losing 2 - 5 and 1 - 7; they must be fitter than us judging by the score of the second game. We play again on Wednesday 16th at home to Ninfield seconds and on the 19th against Windsor at home. The seconds fared no better last week losing 1 - 3 at home. It would be nice to finish this most disrupted season with a win.

The cricketers are going to work over the Easter holiday to try to repair the damage caused by the weather to the pitch, but it will take a lot of hard work, scarifying the moss, rolling and mowing. They are already going to the nets for practice, so we hope for the best. If anyone new to the village wishes to play, please let Mike Davey know, they will be very welcome.

My apologies for an error in last week’s Village Voice when I omitted a figure two when mentioning the CADS Murder Mystery evening. It should have said Saturday 24th May in Catsfield Village Hall at 7.30pm – sorry Vanessa!
