Catsfield

Coffee Morning: Don’t forget Gwen’s Coffee Morning next Friday 25th September at Glebe Cottages between 9am – 12 noon. This is Catsfield’s contribution to the ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ held annually to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and will feature Gwen’s famous meringues!

Family Service: This Sunday 20th September the Holy Communion service at St Laurence’s Church will be at the earlier time and will be the shorter ‘said’ service. This is to allow for the Family Service to begin at 10am and coffee will be available afterwards.

Countryside and Sport: Watching the ploughing on the Hooe marshes the other day in glorious sunshine, the huge flock of seagulls following the plough suddenly disappeared from view and the reason was soon obvious with the appearance of two glorious buzzards looking for food. When the tractor disturbed a pheasant chick on the ground, one of the buzzards swooped and took off the chick. The seagulls reappeared when the danger had passed and all was, on the surface at least, back to normal. Too late to catch sight of them, we heard the other day that a pair of peregrine falcons had raised three babies this summer at a secret location in the village. So, the birds of prey seem to be doing well, even if some of the smaller birds are becoming rarer, perhaps there is a link there?

Also quite rare is a victory for our football team, who went to Icklesham and lost 0 - 5, no special reason, they just lost. We hope for a better result tomorrow when they are at home to Bexhill Athletic.
