THERE was cause to celebrate at Peasmarsh on Saturday with the grand re-opening of the newly refurbished Memorial Hall.
Around 150 villagers turned out to join in the celebration which was opened by local celebrity, Andy McConnell of “Glass etc” in Rye and of BBC Antiques Roadshow fame.
Rother District Councillor Ian Jenkins also added few words in praise of the project.
This was followed by refreshments, and a chance to explore the hall and visit exhibitions set up by Peasmarsh Brownies about their activities, and view Robin Thompson’s archive of historical photographs of the village and its people.
Chairman Mrs Jennifer Als thanked all those involved with the project, including local fund-raisers and individual contributors, the Big Lottery Fund and Rother District Council amongst other grant givers. Special mention was made of the determination and commitment of the Hall Management committee and other dedicated Peasmarsh residents, Parish Councillors and the Parish Clerk.
She also expressed the village’s thanks for the professionalism of the project architect Dominic Manning and the building contractor Gary White Associates.
