Burglaries suspect seen in Rye arrested

A wanted man who was recently seen in Rye was arrested this morning (Monday, August 15), over a number of burglaries across the county.

Officers acting on a tip-off, arrested Darryl Matthew Dempsey at 7.25am at an address in Dorking, Surrey.

The 22-year-old was wanted on suspicion of eight burglaries other than dwellings, six frauds, driving while disqualified, failing to stop and other motoring offences.

Police had offered a £500 reward for information leading to Dempsey’s arrest.

He had been seen recently in the Wealden area, Eastbourne and Rye, but was last seen in Hailsham.

Dempsey is now in the custody of Sussex Police for interview.
