Detectives investigating the vicious assault on John Adams, 43, and the theft of his van in Rye last Saturday night (11 August) have made two arrests.

Two men, a 41-year-old from Ashford and a 28-year-old from Maidstone were arrested yesterday (15 August) in conjunction with Kent Police. They have been released on conditional bail until 11 September.

Mr Adams is recovering in hospital after being shot at and is still to learn if he may lose the sight of one eye.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses who may have seen Mr Adam’s white Toyota Hilux, with Environment Agency livery, being towed between Rye and Charing, Kent, late on Saturday night and the early hours of Sunday morning. The van suffered damage to its bumper whilst it was being towed.

DI Hannah Willard said: “This is very fast moving investigation and all possible leads are being followed up. The two arrests yesterday reflect our determination to bring the offenders to justice.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact detectives on 101 quoting Operation Avonside, or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
