A TEENAGE girl kicked in a glass shop door after getting drunk on stolen bottles of wine.
Samantha Muggridge travelled to Rye with a friend on January 17 and stole two bottles of wine from Tilling Green stores before returning to Hastings and stealing food from a Costcutter shop.
Muggridge, 18, of Buckingham Road, St Leonards, pleaded guilty to two charges of theft and one of criminal damage when she appeared at Hastings Magistrates Court last week.
But the court was told that she has a special condition which makes her act on impulse without thinking.
Mark Kateley, prosecuting, said: “ She was with her friend Sharni Aylott, who has been dealt with separately.
“She went into the Tilling Green shop at 5pm, took two bottles of wine, worth £9.98, and left without paying.
“At 10pm the same day they went into Costcutter in Bohemia Road and stole sandwiches and other food, worth £11.
“Muggridge left the shop but the shop assistant locked the door with her friend still inside.
“She kicked the door causing the glass to break and the shop assistant to be injured by flying glass. Damage caused to the door was £200.
“Police arrested her nearby shortly afterwards and she admitted the offences.
“She has previous convictions for assault, criminal damage and breaching court orders.”
Aiden Harvey, defending, said: “ She did not anticipate the door would break when she kicked it.
“She has a medical condition which causes her to act before she thinks.
“She accepted what she had done and admitted it to police.”
Magistrates sentenced her to a six-month probation order with the requirement she attend alcohol counselling sessions.
She was also ordered to pay £200 compensation for the damage caused to the door.
