SHOP staff alerted police after a woman tried to use fake £20 notes at various businesses in Battle.
Officers were called by a member of staff at the Co-Op in the High Street at 6pm on March 29 after a woman tried to purchase some items with a faked bank note.
The cashier held on to the note and the woman left the store.
She then tried to dupe staff at The Bull, who also called police before following the woman.
Police stopped the woman, who was with a group of people, near the cricket ground at 6.45pm.
It was later discovered a fake note had also been used at the Kings Head in Mount Street.
A group of youths from Hastings were questioned and police enquiries are continuing.
Police stressed that such incidents are rare in Battle.
